How to transfer your real estate license from another state to Nebraska.
What is real estate license reciprocity? One may obtain a real estate license by reciprocity or mutual recognition if the person has a current license in another state. It basically means you would transfer your license without having to take some or all of the state’s pre-licensing requirements. Requirements for an of-state-real estate license vary by state.
Does Nebraska have real estate reciprocity with other states?
Technically no. But Nebraska has “License by Recognition” which is very similar. If licensed in another state, you would only need to take the Nebraska state portion of the real estate exam. You will also need to take a 3 hour (1/2 day) course on Nebraska Agency Statutes and License Law. You would not have to take pre-license education or the national portion of the exam. Your out-of-state license must be current.

Requirements and steps to get a real estate license by reciprocity in Iowa:
- You have a current real estate license in another state
- Review the Information pages provided by the NE Real Estate Commission for License by Recognition. There are 2 options:
- For persons who have moved or planning to move to Nebraska AND
- For non-residents seeking a Nebraska license
- You may also email the Commission for which packet that they recommend and they can email it to you.
- Obtain a certified copy of your out-of-state license history
- Submit to a state and national criminal history background check through the Iowa Real Estate Commission.
