New Jersey Real Estate License Reciprocity
How to transfer your real estate license from another state to New Jersey .
What is real estate license reciprocity? One may obtain a real estate license by reciprocity or mutual recognition if the person has a current license in another state. It basically means you would transfer your license without having to take some or all of the state’s pre-licensing requirements. Requirements for an of-state-real estate license vary by state.
Does New Jersey have real estate reciprocity with other states?
Technically, no. However, New Jersey allows persons licensed out-of-state to apply for a waiver. You must have been actively licensed at any time within the past 3 years. The NJ Commission will review your application and reply. If your state did not include the 75 hours of pre-license as required in New Jersey, you will need to take the extra pre-license courses.
If licensed in Florida, Pennsylvania or New York, there are special agreements with New Jersey. Contact the New Jersey Real Estate Commission.
New Mexico Real Estate Commission issues two types of real estate licenses: salesperson and broker. Requirements for out-of-state brokers are similar but there are a few differences. See the NJ Real Estate Commission website.
