How to transfer your real estate license from another state to Indiana.
What is real estate license reciprocity? One may obtain a real estate license by reciprocity or mutual recognition if the person has a current license in another state. It basically means you would transfer your license without having to take some or all of the state’s pre-licensing requirements. Requirements for an of-state-real estate license vary by state.
Does Indiana have real estate reciprocity with other states?
Technically, Indiana does not have reciprocity with other states. However, if you have to take an out-of-state license, you may be able to qualify for recognition or equivalence to take only the Indiana state portion of the license exam. You would not have to take the education or the national portion of the license exam.
A person licensed out-of-state would need to first submit your license application to see if you qualify for recognition. The Indiana Commission will then have a member review your application to determine if you qualify. If so, you would take only the state portion of the license exam. If not, you would receive information on what is needed to obtain your Indiana license.
Requirements to get a real estate license by out of state recognition:
- You have a current and active real estate license, in another state. .
- You submit an application to the Indiana Commission that includes information about your out-of-state license with any neccesary proof.
- If the Commission approves your out-of-state recognition, you will only need to take the Indiana state commission. That would be taken by PSI Exams.
- If the Commission does not approve, they will send you information on licensing requirements for your situation.
- You will need to complete all the other questions on the license application.
