Continuing Education Requirements

Iowa real estate agents must complete 36 hours of approved continuing education every three years to renew a real estate license.

• These courses must include 12 hours of Mandatory courses including:
• Law Update-8 hours, and
• Ethics-4 hours.
• The other 24 hours are elective courses
• Sales agents renew December 31st every 3 years.
• The IA Real Estate Commission only allows licensees to complete 24 hours of the total 36 hour requirement in an online environment. It is the licensees' responsibility to ensure they do not complete over 24 hours in an online environment.

  Certified Short Sale Agent (CSSA) designation - approved for 6 elective hours
