California Real Estate License Reciprocity

What is real estate license reciprocity?   One may obtain a real estate license by reciprocity or mutual recognition if the person has a current license in another state.  It basically means you would transfer your license without having to take some or all of the state’s pre-licensing requirements.  Requirements for an of-state-real estate license vary by state.

Does California have real estate reciprocity with other states?

No.  California does not have real estate reciprocity with any other state.  There is no waiver of any of the education requirements.   To obtain a California real estate license, one must first pass an approved pre-license course that includes 135 hours.  One does not need to be a California resident to become a salesperson.

Online Pre-license Course:  California allows an online course to meet the educcational requirements.   The course consists of three 45 hour portions: Principles, Practice and Finance.
