Maine Real Estate License Reciprocity
How to transfer your real estate license from another state to Maine .
What is real estate license reciprocity? One may obtain a real estate license by reciprocity or mutual recognition if the person has a current license in another state. It basically means you would transfer your license without having to take some or all of the state’s pre-licensing requirements. Requirements for an of-state-real estate license vary by state.
Does Maine have real estate reciprocity with other states?
Yes. Maine has reciprocity with other states. If you have a current and ative license in another state, you will only need to pass the Maine state portion of the real estate exam. You will not need to take a real estate course or the National portion of the exam, although you will want to take exam prep for the state portion.
Maine has different types of licenses. For a reciprocal license, Maine has an Associate Broker license (comparable to a salesperson license in other states) and a Designated Broker who can work independently or manage an office. Maine has a Sales Agent license, but that is only valid for the first 2 years (after which you can become an Associate Broker). But a Sales Agent license is not available for a reciprocal license since you already have a license in another state.
