Wisconsin Real Estate License Reciprocity

How to transfer your real estate license from another state to Wisconsin.

What is real estate license reciprocity?   One may obtain a real estate license by reciprocity or mutual recognition if the person has a current license in another state.  It basically means you would transfer your license without having to take some or all of the state’s pre-licensing requirements.  Requirements for an of-state-real estate license vary by state.

Does Wisconsin have real estate reciprocity with other states?

Yes. Wisconsin has reciprocity with all Illinois and Indiana.  If you have an active broker license in Illinois or Indiana, you are exempt from the education requirement. You will need to take the sales exam. If your license is inactive but was active within the past 2 years, you may apply to obtain a Wisconsin salesperson license by “endorsement”.    Note: A Wisconsin broker is equal to a salesperson license in most other states.

If you are licensed in another state (other than Illinois or Indiana), and active within the last 2 years, you will only need to take the 13 hours of sales education before taking the state exam.
