Utah Real Estate License Reciprocity

How to transfer your real estate license from another state to Utah.

What is real estate license reciprocity?   One may obtain a real estate license by reciprocity or mutual recognition if the person has a current license in another state.  It basically means you would transfer your license without having to take some or all of the state’s pre-licensing requirements.  Requirements for an of-state-real estate license vary by state.

Does Utah have real estate reciprocity with other states?

Technically, no.  However, Utah has real estate reciprocity agreements with Georgia, Mississippi and Alberta, Canada.  If you have a current license  in one of those three,  you would not be required to take prelicensing education or the either portion of the exam (national or state).   You would only need original certificates from the other states, with your online application and create a Utah ID.

If you are licensed in another state or juridiction, you can apply for a waiver of the education requirements so that you would likely only have to take the state 24 hour pre-license course (30-hour for brokers).

The Utah Real Estate Commission issues two types of real estate licenses:

  • Sales Agent (agent-level): Must work under the supervision of a managing broker.
  • Broker (independent-level): Can work independently and/or start thier own firm.
Brokers: See broker reciprocity page for additional requirements.
