Texas Real Estate License Reciprocity

What is real estate license reciprocity?   One may obtain a real estate license by reciprocity or mutual recognition if the person has a current license in another state.  It basically means you would transfer your license without having to take some or all of the state’s pre-licensing requirements.  Requirements for an of-state-real estate license vary by state.

Does Texas have real estate reciprocity with other states?

No.  Texas does not have real estate reciprocity with any other state.  There is no waiver of any of the education requirements.   To obtain a Texas real estate license, one must first pass an approved Texas pre-license course that includes 180 hours for salespersons.  One must be a U.S. citizen or lawfully admitted alient to become a salesperson.

If you have an out-of-state license, you may be able to take only the state portion of the real estate exam if you took the national portion in your other state.  As of now, states that participate in ARELLO include Alabama, Delaware, Connecticut, Delaware, DC, Georgia, Idaho, Louisiana, Mississippi, Montana, Nebraska, New York, North Dakota, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Vermont, Washington, West Virginia, and Wyoming.

If you do not live in one of the ARELLO participating states, you will need to take the 180 hours of Texas pre-license courses before you can apply for a salesperson license.
