Kentucky Real Estate License Reciprocity
How to transfer your real estate license from another state to Kentucky.
What is real estate license reciprocity? One may obtain a real estate license by reciprocity or mutual recognition if the person has a current license in another state. It basically means you would transfer your license without having to take some or all of the state’s pre-licensing requirements. Requirements for an of-state-real estate license vary by state.
Does Kentucky have real estate reciprocity with other states?
Techincally no. But Kentucky allows one to take only the state portion of the Kentucky real estat estate exam for a person who is licensed in Florida, Ohio, Illinois and Tennessee. Licensees from these state would still need to take an approved Kentucky Real Estate Practice Course. One would still need to take the Kentucky portion of the real estate exam by Pearson VUE. The pre-license course and National portion of the exam would not be required.
Requirements to get a real estate license by reciprocity in Kentucky:
- You must have a current license in one of these reciprocal states: Florida, Ohio, Illinois and Tennessee
- Must be actively licensed for a minimum of one (1) year immediately preceding the submission of your reciprocal application with the same status in the following states.
Note: If not licensed in a reciprocal state, you need to take the Kentucky pre-license course. - You take and pass an approved Kentucky 40 Hour Reciprocity course.
- Pass the Kentucky portion of the real estate license exam with Pearson VUE.
- Provide a certificate of licensure from the out-of-state license.
- Submit fingerprinting for background check.
- Apply for your broker license with the Kentucky Real Estate Commission.
